As we celebrate 20 years of ministry and mission as a church, we asked the church to share some testimonies of how the Lord has been at work as they have engaged in life at Crosspoint.
Be encouraged by what Heather Steinbeck shares below…
Summing up what seems like a lifetime of memories for two decades into these few paragraphs seems a little crazy. What started as a dream in two young 20-something’s then blossomed into so much more of a beautiful picture than I could have dared paint if it were in our own strength.
But God….that has been a running theme in the hearts of Dave and me since the beginning.
He has been all sufficient. He cares so deeply for his people. Crosspoint is an evidence of God’s overwhelming grace in each of our lives. So many have come and gone through the doors of wherever we were meeting, whether it be in our living room, the store front, the middle school, and now the place we now call home. Our prayer over the years has and continues to be that as we keep our hand to the plow as Luke 9:62 tells us, and not look back, that He provides the strength, the resources, the joy, the peace, and ultimately the growth as we continue to plant and water. We trust Him. We have reminded ourselves over and over through the years that “God takes care of his church”. And He does. This has never been said flippantly but in a deep abiding trust in the One who is our Cornerstone.
Crosspoint has been our third child. As we were raising Maddy and Eli, Crosspoint also grew up and needed nurturing and tending to. Our biggest prayer has been answered over the years in that when our own children grew up, that they would want to serve God with their lives however He called each of them to do so. I honor Maddy and Eli for their sacrifices of the years as Crosspoint grew and they grew. Our prayer has been that they wouldn’t despise the Church, but instead love it and invest in it. It is an absolute JOY to see the fruits of labor in each of their lives in relation to this. God answers prayers and we praise Him for that work!
Dave and I have been a team, shoulder to shoulder, arm in arm, and back to back for all of our years and that won’t change for as long as I have breath, no matter what God calls us to. It is his occupation but my joy to serve alongside him. It has been my honor thus far to whisper prayers of faith over his heart when he has been weary, to celebrate together with tears of joy when people come to faith and take the next steps God has them on their paths. To weep with fellow brothers and sisters through the years of losing the ones they have loved. To walk alongside parents with prodigals. To go deeper with so many premarital couples and then the blessing of marrying them. To walk with new parents, sweet ones longing to be parents, tired ones of aging parents, and all of the ones in between. The blessing of having a “crop of kids” born at Crosspoint each year encourages our hearts so much. Those little ones have the absolute blessing of walking alongside other SonChasers through the years along with amazing staff caring for them. Our own kids are a product of sweet discipleship through SonChasers and HYPE and we praise God for the growth.
I’m thankful for my pastor. I’m thankful that he is a leader who leads “bent low”. No job is too small for him and he is not above serving in the humblest of ways. I love him like crazy. The way he loves and encourages behind the scenes and from the platform is a gift to have a front seat to. I’ll stop talking about him because he gets so shy about that. 🙂
I’m thankful for the elder team that now surrounds him. They have been a huge source of encouragement and I trust them with my husband’s heart to also stand with him shoulder to shoulder and back to back. I am thankful that this group of men “go first” in their surrender to Jesus. It makes it easy to follow them because they are following Him. Praise God for that!!
There were some years where, due to hurts along the way, my heart built walls of protection and “safety”, insulating myself from being real with people. Those walls have been slowly and sweetly tumbled due to sweet friendships in community with those I can trust my heart to again. Thankful to the Lord for his refining work in me to allow this. He is so good.
So I call Crosspoint home because it is home. We are devoted to Jesus, we are dedicated to one another and we are driven ever still to reach people who are in desperate need of the love of Jesus. These are not just empty words to me. This is my mission in life.
God, you continue to amaze me for using this little church full of people who continue to take next steps and say yes to you. We are yours for however you need us, wherever you need us, and whomever you need us to connect with. You are leading us through this beautiful journey and we will follow.
