As we celebrate 20 years of ministry and mission as a church, we asked the church to share some testimonies of how the Lord has been at work as they have engaged in life at Crosspoint.
Be encouraged by what David, Sarah, and Victoria Verdick share below…
Our journey at Crosspoint started just a little over one year ago, in July of 2022, when Dave was invited by Mark Hootman to help him out with a guest music worship team for a Sunday service. This was during a season of significant challenges at our previous church, including the absence of a youth pastor for almost a year and a half, and we were working through some hurts and mixed emotions. Victoria had actually come to us during that summer and verbalized she wasn’t growing at our church and was thirsty for deeper spiritual growth. Well, that was that. We could certainly grow anywhere as adults, but we could not openly neglect the spiritual well-being of our daughter and what she needed then and now as a teenager.
Dave followed the call to serve alongside Mark that day, with zero expectations, figuring this would be a one-time opportunity…we certainly had no inclination that Jesus was using this opportunity to plant the seed for our mission field and church home to relocate to the Eureka area. “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” Isaiah 6:8
What we found at Crosspoint that day was exactly what had been missing for some time in our lives…and what we had been seeking, and NEEDED, for our next steps. A church firmly founded in a discipleship model of preaching, community, and worship. A church that didn’t just preach the Scripture but LIVED it. A welcoming and authentic congregation that felt like family from day one. And a trio of pastors, staff, and elders all are on mission for Christ, and all actively investing into Victoria and the youth of our church from the moment we walked in the door. In the weeks that followed, the pastors and staff remembered us by name every week, and intentionally sought to know us and speak life into our lives, assisting any way they could.
Victoria started going to Hype on the second week of that school year, and the rest, well, is history. Pastor Kent and Amber have been so impactful in her life, not just on Sunday nights, but every day. She was accepted from the first day she walked in and has continually grown in Christ while forming new Godly friends at Hype. The sweetest blessing of Hype was how God called Victoria to encourage a friend to join her. Her friend liked it so much, it ultimately led to her family coming to Crosspoint. Victoria’s witness for Christ is one that we can all aspire to grow into.
All three of us grow from the preaching each week, sermons that deeply explore Scripture and challenge us to growth and obedience in our daily walk with Jesus. Sarah and Dave joined up with the Bressner’s community group soon after we started attending and have been encouraged and supported by the new relationships formed there. We started alternating our attendance in the fall of 2022 between Crosspoint and our previous church while Dave wrapped up worship team obligations there. By mid-November of 2022, we were full time attendees at Crosspoint, and it was not a difficult decision to become covenant members on January 1 of 2023. The 3D mission resonates so clearly with us: “Devoted to Jesus – Dedicated to One Another – Driven to Reach People.”
Since becoming covenant members, Dave and Sarah have enjoyed serving on the Sunday worship music team, and look forward to becoming more involved with discipleship ministry and community group leadership. Serving as a family at VBS this summer was a real blessing to us, getting to walk alongside the children for a week! Victoria is starting to serve in Sonchasers and bless younger children with her sweet encouragement and relationship with God. All three of us enjoy doing life with the families of Crosspoint that we continue to get to know and serve our church and community alongside them as brothers/sisters in Christ. We were all duly blown away by how the elders and staff stepped up during pastor Dave’s sabbatical this summer to keep the church running like a well-oiled machine…it was almost like he never left. Our family was just as blessed by the preaching of others in our church family and the guest pastors that came. Another sign that “this is home” – and we know without a doubt that Crosspoint is exactly where God wants us to be, here and now.
The only downside to being at Crosspoint? Maybe the confusion of having another “Dave” (and a tall “Dave” at that) in the church family! 🙂
Thank you, church family, and thank you Lord. It is a blessing to celebrate what Crosspoint has been doing for the Lord for 20 years, and we eagerly anticipate what the next 20 years will bring as we obey the call to faithfully be disciples of Jesus.
