God calls us to be generous with the money He has given to us. We are to generously, faithfully, and cheerfully store up our treasure in Heaven, and invest it into God’s work in God’s Kingdom. Here is a testimony from a Crosspoint household who is giving to God’s work in and through the ministry of Crosspoint…
Wife: I started giving 10% when I was a new Christian, but did it based off my “net” income. It wasn’t until a couple years later when I was challenged to base it off my “gross” amount that I did (for when I tell someone what I make, I always say my gross amount, so why would I use any other amount with God?). And of course, the 10% is just the starting point, and for the church. We also support missionaries as well. I find tithing to be a faith and trust issue. Do I truly trust that God is my provider? Do I truly trust that He will meet my needs? It’s not always easy to write that check, especially when things are tight financially, but it’s freeing to also say “okay Lord, I’m trusting You!” And I can say, for nearly 40 years, that God really is my provider, and He does meet my needs.
Husband: For me tithing is a Matthew 6:21 issue; “Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” 10% is God’s. This is the scriptural standard. Giving beyond 10% is what I strive for. God is my creator. He alone allows me to awake each morning. He chose me as his child. If I truly believe this, how can I not give to him cheerfully everything I can. There have been several times in our married life when God has blessed us financially in the midst of our faith giving. When we look back on those times we find the verse in Luke 6:38 completely true: “ Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
