Exciting NEW things are happening at SonChasers!
After a year-long search, we’ve landed on a dynamic new children’s curriculum called “The Gospel Project for Kids” (by Lifeway Press). Here are some things we learned along the way:
- The Bible is God’s Story, and because I’m His child, it’s my story, too.
- The “stories” in the Bible aren’t just stories. They’re all part of the “Big God Story.” (we were introduced to the verbage: “In today’s part of the Big God Story” or “Today, we’re looking at the part of the Big God Story when…”)
- We need to create space/time for the Holy Spirit to speak to kids. Kids can learn to hear His voice and can respond to it (given the opportunity)
Who knew there were so many curriculum options?! [and, what an amazing blessing!]
After prayer, searching, and discussion, a special team chose 3 curricula that we’d try out with ages 3 years-4th grade (using each one for 2-3 months during 2014). Thanks to a dedicated team of flexible volunteers, we enjoyed a trial of First Look [preschool] & 252 Basics (from a company called Orange), TruWonder & TruStory (from David C. Cook publishing), and ultimately landed on The Gospel Project for Kids as a “best fit” for SonChasers. There were valuable tidbits learned along the way, and seriously – this type of “trial period” would not have been possible if it weren’t for the adaptable attitudes of the SonChasers Team!
THEY ARE AMAZING!!!
Beginning last Sunday (Jan 4), we started our journey through the Bible, discovering how Christ fits into the entire Gospel story, pre-creation to eternity. One tool that we especially love is the Bible story video which can be used to visually enhance the teaching segment for the day (scroll down for a video which accompanies a lesson from Genesis) As we join the “program in process,” we’ll all study a unit entitled “Power and Parables” (which takes us through February 2015). 3 year-olds through 4th graders will study the same Scripture passage each week with hands-on activities geared to their specific age level. Take a look at where we are in the Big God Story according to the new timeline on our wall!
SonChasers “opens” at 9:35am with pre-service Small Group activities for your child and his/her teacher. Classes are invited to Large Group for Worship Music & Offering beginning at 10am. About 10:15am, the Preschool classes (3’s & 4’s) head to their own rooms for Bible teaching and activities, while 5’s/k-4th graders learn together from the Large Group Leader. Then it’s back to Small Group time (about 10:45am), for discussion and reinforcement activities about the day’s lesson. Every class is taught by a rotating team of volunteers and if you do not know them by name, please introduce yourself! It is our privilege (as SonChasers volunteers) to partner with you in the building of your child’s faith! At home, be intentional about asking your child what they learned that day. Take a look at the activity sheet for ideas, open your Bibles together, and pick-up other disciple-making resources on the Family Resource Board.
**Parents/Caregivers, you are always welcome to sit in on class alongside your child [please notify the Registration Team for security purposes]
**Parents/Caregivers should pick up babies-4th graders at their classrooms, showing the Parent Pick-up tag whenever asked
