The Word

From Craig Swanson…

As followers of Christ, the word of God should be our most prized possession. By it we learn who God is, His character, His plan, His will for our lives. Col. 3:16 admonishes us to “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” Part of that discipline is to get into the word of God on a daily basis.

Another way to let it richly dwell within you is to hear it. Acts 2:42 tells us the early Christians “were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching”. One of the best ways to grow strong in your walk with the Lord is to be saturated with the preaching of the word of God.

In this day of advanced technology, we have the opportunity to do that at our fingertips. Everyone has computers and smartphones and tablets that they have with them everywhere they go. While you work, while you drive, while you exercise, while you’re surfing the internet, you can be redeeming the time by getting the Word in your head through the preaching of good men of God. Find some good preachers and subscribe to their podcasts and they will be automatically downloaded to your computer or smartphone. You will be amazed at how it will challenge you and change your life.

You need to be discerning on who you listen to because there are a lot of false teachers out there. You don’t need to be listening to prosperity teachers or word of faith teachers. Their message is all about “what can God do for me”. That kind of teaching will feed your earthly lusts rather that sanctify you. Here are the top three on my device – John MacArthur, Charles Stanley and Wretched Radio. You will have to pay a six dollar per month fee to subscribe to Wretched, but it’s well worth it. You can listen to shorter versions for free, but you’ll get hooked. You’ll learn great theology while laughing at the same time.

Please take the time to download some podcasts – like right now. Get into the habit of working them into your schedule and you will be amazed at the way the Holy Spirit will use the word of God in your life.
