For the past several summers, we have enjoyed the opportunity to worship TOGETHER – young and old – in what we call the “Living Room” at Crosspoint. Inter-generational worship is not something to be taken for granted, as so many programs in today’s American church cater to very specific demographics. These specialties certainly have their place and purpose. But the “together” times are just as important. That is why we will have Family Services July 1 – August 12. SonChasers Move-Up Day will be Sunday, August 19.
təˈɡeT͟Hər/Adverb
-
With or in proximity to another person or people. Synonyms: with each other, in conjunction, jointly, in cooperation, in tandem, side by side, hand in hand, shoulder to shoulder
-
At the same time. Synonyms: simultaneously, all together, as a group, in unison, in concert, in chorus, as one, with one accord
Now, if you have a young child, you are probably about to stop reading this post and are already dreading the fact that there will be no “childcare” for your little one on Sundays. Can I just encourage you for a minute? Your child is precious, and we really love to have them in amongst us. Their little noises and squirms do not offend us and we are proud of you for bringing them to church to sit beside you. (I’m sorry that we do not tell you that enough.)
- There is beauty in little children worshiping among those who are much older than they are. This is God’s graceful way of showing them what a lifelong faith looks like. Yes, you demonstrate your faith at home as well. But God has designed corporate worship as a powerful part of deepening our faith. Don’t cheat your child out of that.
- There is great benefit in their little minds watching the Pastor and Worship Leader and all of those who are serving, for someday they, too, might do that very thing. There is also great benefit for “big people” to be reminded what it means to have faith like a child.
- There is value in little children learning to sit quietly for an extended period (hint: it’s a life skill!). Pack a bag just for Sundays, with some quiet activities like this or this or this or this. For many kids, it is when their hands are busy that their minds can best retain what they’re hearing.
You can do it!
As a result, God encourages us [the family at Crosspoint] with glimpses of the work He’s doing to train up the future leaders of our church! See you this summer!
“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus— 20 he has inaugurated[e] for us a new and living way through the curtain (that is, through his flesh)— 21 and since we have a great high priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. 23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:19-25
PS Thank you for graciously allowing the SonChasers Team to take a refreshing break from their faithful service throughout the school year. The Baby & Toddler Nurseries will continue to be staffed throughout the summer for those who are 2 years old and under.
