The Apostle Paul says this to the Galatians, chapter 4, verse 12…I plead with you, brothers and sisters, become like me…
Paul’s not saying, be formed into the image of Paul. Nor is he saying that he’s perfect. In 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul says, follow me as I follow Christ. That’s what he is saying here in Galatians. Become like me, who is at the same time, seeking to become more like Christ.
If you’re a Christ follower, we’ve been called to be a disciplemaker. From our neighborhoods to the nations, to go out and make disciples of Jesus, teaching them to obey the words of Jesus and live for Him alone.
And a disciplemaker for Jesus says the same thing that Paul says…
Become like me. Watch my life, and no you won’t see perfection, but you will see spiritual progress. And I pray in my life, you will see the One who has saved me. You will see the One whose image I am being formed into. The One who now lives in and through me, Jesus the One who I have placed by faith and trust in.
One reality that we often underestimate in life is how others are following us. It doesn’t matter how old you are, or if you have kids or don’t have kids, or if your children are young, or you’re a grandparent, it doesn’t matter your marital status, or what you do for a job, or where you live…
If you’re living and breathing today, there are people following you. And the Lord has called you to be a witness and an ambassador for Him.
Be encouraged that one of greatest things you can do as a disciplemaker of Jesus, is for you to walk in obedience and faith and have a flourishing and abiding relationship with Jesus, your Lord and Savior. To not compartmentalize your faith, but to let Christ’s good and life giving authority, rule and reign over everything in your life.
To echo Paul’s words and say, follow me as I follow Christ. Become like me, as I become more and more like Jesus. For knowing Him and being known by Him, is of surpassing value in my life.
