Why I Serve – Rohn and Karen Peterson

Around Crosspoint, our volunteers truly are at the heart of what we do.  Without our volunteers, God-glorifying, life-changing ministry just wouldn’t happen.  So why do our volunteers serve?  Why do they join Jesus in His invitation to be a part of a mission that is greater than themselves?

Here is one testimony from Rohn and Karen Peterson who serve around Crosspoint in a variety of ways, including leading a community group…

There are several reasons we serve, (and even after writing this we’ll probably think of several more), but mainly we serve because:

1. Jesus is our example, as He came not to be served, but to serve (Mark 10:45a), and we too, should serve others. Jesus came to earth as a servant (Philippians 2:7), so it must be important to Him as well.

2. We serve because we are able to. We don’t have to be perfect. Any opportunity to serve can be done in His strength, not our own (thankfully!).

3. We serve because it’s a joy to be used by God, and He does have a purpose for us (Ephesians 2:10).

4. At that end of this short life, when we enter eternity, we want to be welcomed into His presence with these words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:21a).

We want to live this life to bring God honor, and maybe with our actions and words, point others to Him. One of the ways we can do this is by serving others and serving Him at the same time.
