One event we love around Crosspoint is our summer VBS! Crosspoint’s 2015 VBS is happening June 28-July 2. Email Holly McClain if you want to be involved! Here is a testimony from a Crosspointers, Dave and Mindy Stalter, on why they serve at VBS…
Why do we volunteer with VBS? Well, I would say we started because we were asked and it seemed like the nice thing to do and we had time since we did not have kids yet. VBS sounded like it would make for a long week but we had friends helping and we were curious what Crosspoint VBS was really like. So we went and we were able to be crew leaders which really took very little skills or prep but we were able to make our group fun and to listen to what our kids had to say. I remember that on the last night or maybe it was second to last night that the VBS leader talked about the gift of salvation and asked if any kids wanted to ask Jesus into their heart and there were several kids who did! It was really the icing and the sprinkles on the VBS cupcake!!!
You can see kids really grasp what they are learning and they are at ages that their hearts are open! I am not a numbers person so I could be wrong but I would guess that half of the kids who attend VBS do not attend our church which means VBS is a vital outreach to share the gospel with kids who may not hear the gospel anywhere else and it is also a way to soften the hearts of the adults that brings them since you get a small opportunity to visit with them also! VBS does take time and it does take emotional and physical energy but I have always come away from it feeling blessed and thankful for a church that all comes together to make 5 days filled with fun and so filled with Jesus’ love for each of those kids! It is like a mini missions trip in a way, you go to serve but really you end up coming from it with feeling closer to our heavenly father and a real sense of the church body and what God can do when His people work together.
Wherever and however you help with VBS, I can guarantee that it will make a difference and maybe you are busy or you don’t have young kids or kids at all and I can also say that if you make the time to help in some way that you will be glad you did. I sure am thankful that I have been able to help and I am excited to see kids and even adults hearts changed by this year’s VBS!
